June 30th

On June 30th, 1905, Albert Einstein first published “Zur Elektrodynamik bewegter Körper (On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies),” establishing the theory of special relativity and introducing the now famous equation E=mc². Einstein would later win the Nobel Prize in Physics for this paper and work in this field, citing "his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect."

Einstein, when asked about the significance of June 30th, and why he had chosen that date, responded "An diesem Tag erscheint die Zeitschrift jedes Jahr." As there were no translators at the time, we are unfortunately left to guess what this could have meant.

My educated assumption, however, is that in his many experiments with light and time, Einstein saw glimpses of the future and discovered that June 30th would one day mark a legendary union of two heroic individuals, united in their passion for life, each-other, and justice.

While Einstein's equation of mass-energy equivalence has undoubtedly had some positive effect on the world, the marriage that occurred on June 30 over 100 years later has resulted in the actual creation of two whole lives, thousands of dollars of taxes paid, and at least 4 straight months worth of laughter.

That marriage, which we celebrate today, has only grown stronger as the couple has worked, struggled, played, bantered, laughed, cried, moved, parented, and grown together.

Loralee, I love you more every day. You are the queen to my jester. I love your compassion and genuine love for those around you. I love your patience and tenderness with our kids. I love your sense of humor and your ease at which you laugh, not taking yourself too seriously and finding the joy in the dumb mundanity of our lives. You are loved by everyone who meets you. You're a pillar in your family and mine, someone who is trusted as a friend and confidant.

You are stunningly beautiful and your smile, always so genuine, lifts me every time I see it. It has been my absolute privilege to live life with you. I'm deeply in love with you and I am so excited for the rest of our life together.
